Electrons in atoms are arranged in energy levels. They can’t sit at any distance from the nucleus, but only at fixed lavender bath soap This is a bit like being on the rung of a ladder - you can stand on the first or second rung, but not on the 1.5th rung. Electrons can move up to higher rungs if given some energy, and will fall down to an empty lower rung (if one is available), releasing some energy. Hyperfine structure simply refers to very closely spaced rungs in the atomic ladder. The second is defined by how long it takes an electron to jump between two of these very closely spaced rungs.
